Monet Self Portrait
Jason Monet ‘Self Portrait’
Oil on Canvas 19 * 27 inches
Jason Monet’s portraits are his signature work. Unlike any other painter he captures the mood and energy of the model with absurd colors and intensly structured facial features. On his own portraits he is equally honest. He sees the lines and contours missed, and colores these in an aray of colors not usually associated with skin. In his face and beard I count over 10 colors ranging from blue, black and grey to orange, purple and pink. There is something frighteningly honesty in his portraits. Yet, all the while an innocent beauty in his ability to capture the essence.

I adore Jason’s work ! Jason was my brother’s Best Man in1970..he painted a vibrant portrait of my brother using a multitude of colours in his face, he captured his ‘being’ perfectly. At an exhibition in his Islington home he had some beautiful pieces but I was young and poor! At the end of the evening he gave me a carved wooden head, which I treasure…he was a vibrant man, so talented…and very kind.
