‘Meeting’ Sudarso

Personally, I was never able to meet Sudarso. Unfortunately, he was never at Joglo Jago (Gono’s art studio), at the same time that I was there.

During my last trip to Jogja, I visited the site of his grave with Gono. He is buried at the Indonesian National Artists Cemetery in Yogya. It is an honer to be laid to rest here. He is buried next to his wife, Hj. Asiyah, who is buried in this cemetery due to being the mother of 5 successful artist, and the wife of Sudarso. Also, buried near by is abstract painter Fajar Sidik.

When I stay at Joglo Jago I have slept many nights in the room Sudarso used there: the peanut room. The two doors are book matched and when closed together appear to be two halves of a peanut shell.
