Meeting Jesse Miller
Jesse Miller and I grew up going to the same schools with our paths continually crossing. It was not until we were both out of high school that we really became friends. At this time he was working professionally as a commercial artist.
One Valentines’ Day my girlfriend wanted to fight when I had plans for a romantic day and evening. Thus, I told her, “We’re finished!” Immediately, I called Jesse and asked him to be my replacement Valentine. Six weeks earlier I had purchased tickets to the Van Gogh exhibit at the LACMA (for Valentines’ Day) and I figured Jesse, being an artist, might enjoy the show.
We were both amazed and inspired with Vincent’s work, and while driving home I asked, “Jesse, why don’t you paint canvas?” He replied that he had always wanted to, and had told many friends over the years, that if someone bought him canvas and some other materials, he would gladly paint for them. Next stop art supply shop! We bought him 2 medium and one large pre-stretched canvas. Also we got a 50 foot roll of canvas, so he could begin making his own shapes and sizes.
The rest is history. Now Jesse has turned a life of art into more than a decade of beautiful canvas with the best still to come!
