Oil on Canvas
Private Collection Costa Mesa, CA
My first purchase of fine art. I bought this in 2000 when I first traveled to Yogyakarta where I met Gono. Dance is a political statement speaking to the people of Indonesia. The reference is to the people who always have a dance or a ceremony to attend. Because of this, they are too busy to confront the government and its rampant corruption. Still a favorite purchase of mine!

All of the other paintings in this series have ruff and ridged edges between the various patches. This one was completely smoothed out so there are no sharp angles. It almost looks woven like strips of cloth. This was the first one I saw of this series.

One of my favorites. The color is very suttle with two creamy green colors and a white cream. What is really amazing is that the textures of patchwork are more diverse than most of the others. Hoping to be able to purchase this one for my private collection.

One of the more symetrical of this series. It expands out evenly and linearly unlike the others. I think it has a clear sun image and a cool funkey vibe.

Aproximately 5′ * 5′ this is one of the largest of the new series thus far. Gono really preferes to work on large canvas. He works to perfect a style in regular sizes then moves on to huge paintings in that feel. Soon he will dwarf this piece in the pointilism patch work paintings he is currently consumed with.

Sound of water is Gono’s favoriate thus far of his new collection. Gono is often found watering the plants of fish ponds. He likes the therapy that is found in water and its sound. This is his representation of that sound and its energy.

Gono’s new style is quite original and bold. This is one of my favorites.
